FTL & LTL Options

🚛 FTL (Full Truckload) Options

FTL means one customer’s freight fills an entire trailer. It’s ideal for large shipments, high-value cargo, or when

timing and handling control are critical.

Dry Van

Standard 53’ enclosed trailer; general freight like pallets, packaged goods, or electronics.

Reefer (Refrigerated)

Temperature-controlled trailers for food, pharmaceuticals, or perishables.

Flatbed

Open-deck trailer for heavy or oversized freight such as machinery, building materials, or equipment.

Step Deck / Drop Deck

Lower trailer deck to haul taller freight that exceeds standard height limits.

Hot Shot

Smaller, expedited loads using Class 3–5 trucks with gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailers for quick, regional hauls.

Dedicated Lanes

Consistent origin/destination routes ensuring reliable capacity and pricing stability.

📦 LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) Options

LTL is for smaller shipments that don’t fill a full trailer. Multiple shippers share space, making it more cost-efficient but with more handling and transit stops.

Common LTL Service Levels

Type

Description / Use Case

Standard LTL

Shared trailer space, typical for 1–6 pallets or up to ~10,000 lbs.

Guaranteed / Time-Critical LTL

Priority handling to ensure delivery by a specific time or date.

Volume LTL / Partial Truckload (PTL)

6–14 pallets, between standard LTL and full truckload pricing.

 Choosing Between FTL & LTL

Factor                                          FTL                                                            LTL

Shipment Size       20,000-45,000 lbs. (full trailer)                   150-10,000 lbs. (partial trailer)

Transit Time         Direct (Faster)                                              Multiple Stops (slower)

Handling              Minimal (load once, unload once)               More touchpoints

Cost Basis            Price per mile or lane                                   Class, weight, and dimensions

Best For               Large, time-sensitive, or fragile loads          Small-to-medium shipments
